Power and Beauty and Truth

November 12, 2009
" I am powerful beyond measure",
she says.
I wish I were, too.
Powerful, beautiful, trusted -
As a human, individual and
as an adult.

Silence is a solution,
unless you have something to say.
Here the power comes in,
to just speak what needs said.

Beauty, factored on the inside,
does not belong as a prisoner.
Beautiful deserves to be heard,
at any cost...

and truth.
Brutal, yet selfless.
To be trustworthy
is to be powerful,
and beautiful.

Power can not be weakened,
because then it becomes bland.
Beautiful cannot be broken,
because beauty is not material.
Truth cannot be twisted,
because the powerful beauty of truth
is flawless, infallible, incomprehensible.

Bad Mommy Moment Number... I've lost count already.

November 9, 2009

Yesterday I gave Lilly a suck of my Sweet Tarts cherry candy cane. She seemed to like it, but I do kind of wonder what kind of horrible habit I’ve started, and which teeth I’ve rotted.

Much like the one where I forgot to buckle her in her car seat and drove five miles to the hospital for her newborn screen. My mom went with us and as I was taking Lilly out of her car seat to get her ready, I wondered how she buckled her in under her jacket. Oops.

…or the time I was relaxing after p...

It's Been a While!

November 5, 2009

A lot has happened since my last post. On September 18th, I became Emily Sutherlin, and on October 21st, we became incredibly proud parents of an amazingly beautiful baby girl, Lillian Olivia. She's 2 weeks old now. There's nothing better than life with her, even in the middle of the night when she decides not to sleep (though, here lately she has been sleeping fairly well through the night).

It's really difficult learning how to juggle evenly the balance between both mommy and wife. Someti...

"Walk the Talk"

July 29, 2009
I know this sounds horrible, but I feel a little bit more relieved than I did last night. I understand that I'm not the bad guy, and I learned a pretty valuable lesson: Sometimes it's better to let people deal with problems they have about you on their own. But, that's not what this is about! That is over, and done with. I don't have time to sit and dwell on it. Tonight in our family devotional, I got to read the verses and what the bible says about the fruits of the spirit, and it is perfect...

God's Image

July 29, 2009
I don't picture God being unapproachable light, with diamonds and rubies and gold. I'm not saying that's not who he is, but to me, God is somewhat like C.S. Lewis, with countless years of wisdom and philosophy sitting on my porch swing giving me advice on my life. Kings aren't intimidating to me, but knowledge and wisdom are - and God is wisdom and knowledge. I don't want to picture what it would be like to be in God's presence in Heaven - I'm saving that for when He's called me home, because...

Wordly Believers?

July 29, 2009
Take a look at 2nd Cortinthians 5:17. This verse says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, and the new has come!"

Did you feel differently right after you became a believer? How about a week after? How about a year after? There's no arguement here. When we are first saved by God's grace, we have this fiery zeal for him no matter what age you are. You think "Wow! My life has really changed!". But for some people, that zeal doesn't last long. The thought of...

Update!

July 29, 2009
Writing on this blog certainly has been a long time. I get into these writing moods and I think "Great! This is going to last!" and it ends up fizzling. However, I'm back!

I have written a couple things in the past month that I will post later, mainly spiritual things. I also have started up a new website for my stitchery and crafts, http://gertsstitchery.yolasite.com. You should check it out if you're interested in needlework and patterns. I'm still trying to set up how to buy and pay for th...

Lifeline

May 23, 2009

I waited so long

For that tiny

Little lifeline

That I held in my pocket.

You know –

The one that makes

A little boy shrink

In embarrassment

From a kiss forced

On his cheek

By his mother.

I waited. And waited.

And I’m still waiting.

"Secrets" Poems

May 23, 2009

Each one of these is a seperate poem, written on seperate paper, I just didn't want to waste posts over these, in case it didn't interest someone. This is a newer form of writing, and something I've just picked up on within the last few months.

I finally threw out

All the poems

That I couldn’t

Let go of

Before.

I never really

Wrote anything

About you.

Sorry.

I’m afraid of so much

More than what I’ve told you.

I wish I could write

Everything down,

But I don’t ...

Back

May 23, 2009

I take back my heart,

My shattered heart.

I take back my hope,

Your stolen hope.

I take back my tears,

All those salty tasting tears.

But,. I would take you back.

If you would just come back.*

*Disclaimer: Not a love poem.
